1. Introduction

FlockEye ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data

FlockEye is a group coordination and location-sharing application. We collect precise location data from your device when you actively participate in a trip. This includes:

  • GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude)
  • Horizontal accuracy for each fix, when your device reports it (in meters)
  • Timestamps for each location update

Important: Location tracking only occurs when you explicitly start tracking for a trip. We do not track your location in the background when you're not actively participating in a trip.

2.2 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Optional display name (how you appear to your group)
  • Password (stored only as a secure hash)
  • Two-letter initials used for your map pin

We do not collect phone numbers. The app does not ask for or store them.

2.3 Trip Information

We collect information about trips you create or join, including:

  • Trip name and settings (for example travel mode, fence radius, and group type)
  • Join codes, membership, and trip status
  • Chat messages and SOS alerts on the trip, including resolutions

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide real-time location sharing with your group members
  • Send alerts when your position is outside the trip’s shared distance from the leader, when your location is stale, or when other trip rules fire (as described in the app)
  • Process and broadcast SOS alerts to other members of your trip (including via push notifications)
  • Improve our services and develop new features
  • Communicate with you about your account and trips
  • Ensure the security and integrity of our services

4. Information Sharing

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

4.1 With Group Members

Your location and status are shared with other members of trips you join. This is the core functionality of FlockEye. SOS alerts and your location at the time of an SOS are shared with other members of that trip in the same way (including via push notifications). If you use your device’s share sheet to send your location to someone outside the app, that happens on your device; we do not store a contact list from that action.

4.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information we still hold if required by law or in response to valid legal requests from public authorities, where applicable.

Location pings and GPS track history: We delete these from our servers within 48 hours of a trip ending (see Data Retention below). After that, we do not retain your continuous location history, and it cannot be shared—those records no longer exist on our systems. This is separate from other trip data (for example account details, chat, or SOS messages, which may include coordinates at the time of the alert) that may be retained longer as described in section 5.

5. Data Retention

We retain location data for a minimal period to protect your privacy:

5.1 Location pings and trip records

  • During trips: Location pings are retained while the trip is active
  • After a trip ends: Location pings are removed from our servers within 48 hours of the trip ending. The app prompts you to save your GPS track before this window closes.
  • Other trip data: Basic trip information, chat messages, and SOS alerts (including coordinates submitted with SOS) may remain on our servers until a trip administrator deletes the trip
  • When you leave a trip: Your location pings are deleted immediately; chat messages may be kept for group context

5.2 Trip Auto-End

Trips automatically end after 24 hours of inactivity from all members. A maximum trip duration of 7 days exists as a safety net.

5.3 Trip Deletion by Admin

Trip administrators can delete a trip at any time. When a trip is deleted, all associated location data, messages, and membership records are permanently removed.

5.4 Account Information

Account information (name, email) is retained until you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time through the app settings.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information. This includes encryption of data in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and regular security assessments.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Export your GPS track in GPX format (compatible with mapping and activity apps) within 48 hours of a trip ending
  • Leave a trip, which immediately deletes your location pings for that trip (chat may be retained for group context)
  • As a trip administrator, delete a trip to permanently remove all associated trip data from our servers

Note: Location pings are removed from our servers within 48 hours of a trip ending. The app will prompt you to save your GPS track when the trip ends.

8. Children's Privacy

FlockEye is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
